Considered one of the most knowledgeable attorneys in the area of criminal law, Kavinoky is regularly asked to comment on the high profile criminal cases, and he has been featured on many local and national television broadcasts including “Larry King Live,” “Entertainment Tonight,” “The Insider,” the “Today Show” “Celebrity Justice” and "Nancy Grace." Kavinoky has also given legal commentary on many national and local radio programs. He has been sought out continuously by the Colorado media to comment on the JonBenet Ramsey case. Darren Kavinoky also has been quoted on numerous criminal cases in such publications as USA Today, The New York Times, Santa Monica Daily Press, The Baltimore Examiner, the New York Post, Men’s Health, Time magazine and CNN.com. In addition, Kavinoky has been used as a regular source by the Los Angeles Times, who quoted him most recently on the Mel Gibson drunk driving case.
Kavinoky’s expertise and successes have led to many national speaking engagements where he has spoken to both lawyers and non-lawyers on a variety of topics. In his presentation “Expungement 101,” Kavinoky teaches those with a criminal past how to clear their criminal records and begin a new direction in life. Other speeches Kavinoky has given over the years include “Ethical Issues in Criminal Cases," which was presented to the Georgia Criminal Defense Lawyers Association; “The CEO Model: A Business Guide for Attorneys,” which was presented at the DUI-DWI National Attorney Seminar; “Jury Selection,” which was presented at the Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice Seminar; “Cross-Examination of the Arresting Officer,” which was presented at the Minnesota DUI Seminar and at Lawrence Taylor’s DUI Defense Seminar; and “Handling the Media in a High Profile Criminal Case,” which was presented at the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
Ardent about gaining further knowledge about criminal law, Kavinoky is continually participating in advanced training. He has studied at the National College of DUI Defense at Harvard Law School. Moreover, he has received certification from the College of Advocacy at Hastings Law School, and he completed the course, "Breath Analysis Forensics" at Florida International University. He is also a certified instructor in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and International Association for Chemical Testing.
Kavinoky is currently writing his first book on the subject of celebrities who commit crimes and how such crimes, and the ways in which they are defended, are directly applicable to the general public. This text will be released in early 2007.
